The Best Museums in La Conner, WA

Discovering the history of the area you are visiting can give you a deeper appreciation for what the town or city offers. This is true in La Conner, where our three museums give you a peek into the local history and culture. But what if you only have time to visit one museum? Which one will be most interesting to you? We'll hopefully be able to answer that question here!

Museum of Northwest Art

  • Address: 121 N 1st St, La Conner, WA
  • Distance from us: 3-minute walk
  • Hours: Monday - Saturday: 10 AM - 5 PM. Sunday: 12 PM - 4 PM

If you're interested in looking at art and learning about the artistic endeavors of local artists, then this should be your primary stop out of all the museums. At the Museum of Northwest Art (called MoNA for short), you'll have the chance to look at current and past art from skilled creators in the Pacific Northwest.

View the masterpieces drawn, sketched, and painted using all sorts of different materials, techniques, and styles from the permanent exhibits.

If you want to see what contemporary artists can do, sneak a peek at the collections that are swapped out throughout the year. You may find something that piques your artistic curiosity. Check out the Upcoming Exhibitions page on their website to find out what will be set up during your visit.

Lastly, you can buy some artsy creations at the MoNA Store. If you sign up to be a member, you'll receive a 10% discount and free parking for the museum.

Skagit County Historical Museum

Address: 501 S 4th St, La Conner, WA
Distance from us: 11-minute walk
Hours: Sunday, Thursday - Saturday: 11AM - 4PM (Closed Monday - Wednesday)

Guests looking for a more in-depth historical experience should beeline straight to Skagit County Historical Museum. While the exhibits will display some art to assist in storytelling, the art itself is not the main focus. Instead, the story of Skagit County and its citizens comes to the forefront.

You'll start by learning about the First Peoples who settled in the area and how they lived. Gradually, the western settlers will become the central focus of the county's story as time goes on. You'll learn how difficult life as a settler could be, and see the beginnings of a school system that is quite foreign to the one American students have today.

History buffs will find something to enjoy when they arrive at this wonderful historical stop.

La Conner Quilt Museum

Address: 703 S Second St, La Conner, WA
Distance from us: 8-minute walk
Hours: Wednesday - Sunday: 11 AM - 5 PM (Closed Monday and Tuesday)

Do you want to visit a museum that will show you something outside of the norm? Check out the local quilt museum, a place dedicated to the art of fabric to tell a story and convey meaning. It's also just flat-out impressive how skillful seamstresses can design these beautiful pieces.

The exhibits swap out regularly, so even if you've visited it before, it can be a lot of fun to return to see what's changed in-between visits. On top of that, there are festivals that occur throughout the year that guests can participate in. You can learn from top quilters and strive to enter your own masterpiece into the competition.

La Conner is the perfect place to spend a day seeking historical and artistic treasures. Whether you want to view art, exhibits, or something in between, we have it all here! We look forward to your stay at La Conner Channel Lodge this travel season!
